BOSTON (CBS) – Winter’s last gasp? Perhaps.
The last three years we have received our last measureable snowfall on March 1st, March 9th, and March 1st respectively.

Might we continue that trend this year?
Boston received 5.3 inches on Sunday morning and the weather models are not indicating any snowfall over the next week to 10 days.
So with March starting on Tuesday, it is possible that we may look back at Sunday as the last gasp of snow in 2011.
Freezing rain was a real issue this morning.
Freezing rain occurs when the atmosphere is warm enough for rain from the top down, but below freezing at the very bottom layer, ground level.
That lowest layer of cold air is now being scoured out and temperatures are steadily rising to near or above freezing in all of southern New England.
Not only that, but the steadiest and heaviest rain will be exiting our region early this afternoon, and just some scattered showers will persist through this evening.

You’ll need to be a bit careful early tomorrow morning.
Temperatures will cool into the 20’s late tonight as skies clear, so some ice will redevelop on untreated surfaces.
The rest of the week looks very quiet with mainly sunny skies each day, just a rather dry cold front slipping through later on Wednesday which will usher in somewhat colder air for midweek.
Looking farther ahead, we could be in for a bit of a warm up this weekend. Temperatures could climb into the 50’s by Sunday with some more rain on the way early next week.
